Palliative care is an integral part of comprehensive care for patients with severe illnesses. It aims to identify and alleviate the pain and suffering they endure, not only physically but also addressing surrounding issues, in order to maximize the quality of life for the patient.
To enhance the expertise and skills of doctors and healthcare professionals in the field of palliative care, FV Hospital is organizing a CME training program titled “PALLIATIVE CARE AND HOMECARE: Experience from Japan to Viet Nam.” This program features leading specialists in oncology, palliative care, and pain management who will share advanced treatment methods and experiences from Japan and Vietnam.

SPEAKERS’ PROFILES:
Dr Vu Truong Son – Deputy Medical Director, FV Hospital
Dr Vu Truong Son graduated from Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2007 and taught there for two years following his graduation. He earned his Master’s degree in Tropical Diseases and International Health at the Institute of Francophone Tropical Medicine (IFMT) in 2009.
Dr Vu Truong Son began working at FV Hospital in 2013 and officially became the Head of the Infectious Disease Department in 2022. Since May 2023, he was also appointed the position of Deputy Medical Director.
Through his years at FV Hospital, Dr Vu Truong Son has garnered high trust from the Board of Directors and colleagues alike. He has contributing significantly to the development and successful implementation of critical policies such as the Response to Global Infectious Diseases and Infection Control. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr Vu Truong Son made numerous positive contributions to FV’s Infection Control Unit and Infectious Diseases Department. As the Deputy Medical Director, Dr Son actively connects the community of doctors inside and outside the hospital, both domestically and internationally, to manage and treat complex cases. He focuses on the development of new technical services as well as FV hospital’s training and scientific research activities.
Dr Shuji Hiramoto – Director of Peace Home Care Clinic, Department of Oncology and Palliative Care
Dr Shuji Hiramoto has an impressive medical career marked by extensive education and numerous professional achievements. He completed his medical degree at Osaka City University (1997-2003) and later obtained an MBA from Kobe University (2019-2020). Currently, he is a doctoral research student at Shiga University of Medical Science. His post-graduate training includes residency and senior residency at Rakuwakai Otowa Hospital and various fellowship positions in gastroenterology, oncology, and palliative care at several renowned institutions. Since February 2021, he has served as the Clinic Director at Peace Home Care Clinic and recently became Chairman of the Medical Corporation Heiwano-mori in November 2023.
Dr Hiramoto holds a full medical license in Japan and has multiple board certifications, including being a Fellow of the Japanese Society of Internal Medicine and a Palliative Care Specialist. His academic contributions are notable, with numerous publications in reputable journals and presentations at international conferences. He has received honors such as the ESMO’s integration of Oncology and Palliative Care award and the Best Presentation Award from the Japanese Society for Palliative Medicine. Dr Hiramoto is a member of several professional societies, demonstrating his active involvement in the medical community.
Dr Basma M’Barek – Head of Hy Vong Cancer Care Centre, FV Hospital
Dr Basma M’Barek graduated from Tunis El Manar University, Tunisia, in 2002, and the University of Paris VI in 2003. She holds a Master’s degree in Human Genetics from the University of Medicine, Tunisia. She has also completed advanced training programmes such as Radiotherapy & Oncology, Psycho-oncology, Head and neck cancer diploma, new technologies in radiotherapy, etc.
Dr Basma M’Barek is a highly skilled professional in the field of oncology. She has worked in prestigious hospitals in France, including Gustave Roussy Cancer Centre, University Hospital Saint Louis, and Le Raincy Montfermeil Hospital, member of European Society of Therapeutic Radiation and Oncology (ESTRO). Since August 2018, Dr Basma M’Barek has been serving as the Head of the Hy Vong Cancer Care Centre at FV Hospital.
In recent years, with a meticulous approach to advancing new treatment protocols and active participation in academic exchange activities, Dr Basma M’Barek has continued to build her reputation and demonstrate her professional competence within the medical community, both nationally and internationally.
Dr Nguyen Nam Binh – Pain Clinic – FV Hospital
Dr Nguyen Nam Binh, graduated from University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Ho Chi Minh City in 2006 and received a Specialisation Degree in Anaesthesiology and Resuscitation in 2016 from the same school. She is an expert with over 15 years of experience. In addition, Dr Nam Binh also participated in advanced training courses to supplement his specialty such as: anaesthesiology resuscitation, echocardiography, chronic pain, etc.
Dr Nam Binh has 13 years’ experience at the Department of Anaesthesia and Resuscitation, Tu Du Hospital (2007-2020). By 2021, she decided to join the team of senior treating doctors, Pain Clinic, FV Hospital with many ambitions and new directions to develop her career.
With dedication and dynamism, Dr Nam Binh continuously enhances her skills through training courses in Europe (Switzerland, France, etc.), establishing connections with leading experts worldwide in the field of pain control, actively participating in scientific forums both domestically and internationally. As the result, she has shared a lot of new knowledge and advanced pain treatment models with other hospitals in the area.
Dr Pham Hoang Manh – Pain Clinic – FV Hospital
Dr Pham Hoang Manh graduated from Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine in 2016 and attended many advanced fellowships: Basic Musculoskeletal Ultrasound, Pham Ngoc Thach Medical University (2021); Cancer Pain Relief Treatment by Imaging, Vietnam Military Medical Academy (2021); Local Anaesthesia Under Ultrasound Guidance, Clinique Medipole Garonne, Toulouse, France (2022); Chronic Pain Management, Geneva, Switzerland (2022).
Prior to joining FV Hospital, Dr Hoang Manh worked as a senior consultant at the Anaesthesiology Department, Cho Ray Hospital, from 2016 and decided to join the FV’s Pain Clinic in November 2022.
Dr Hoang Manh specialises in pain relief for conditions related to the musculoskeletal system, joints, spine, neuropathy and cancer via advanced methods such as subcutaneous injection and nerve destruction targeted by Radiofrequency ablation (RFA), ect.
Dr Manh brings pain relief methods that are currently applied throughout the world, offering personalised treatment while consulting with everyone in his care to help reduce both their physical pain and psychological discomfort.
Dr Nguyen Huynh Ha Thu – Oncologist, Hy Vong Cancer Care Centre, FV Hospital
Dr Nguyen Huynh Ha Thu is a clinical oncologist at Hy Vong Cancer Care Centre – FV Hospital, with special interest in modern radiotherapy techniques.
She has graduated as medical doctor at HCMC University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2016, then completed the advanced training in oncology as a residential doctor in 2019 and joined FVH in the same year.
She has demonstrated great interest in implementing new techniques at FVH with special interest in VMAT, SBRT, SRS techniques as well as brachytherapy.
Since joining FV Hospital, Dr Ha Thu has presented several research works at several conferences such as ESMO Asia and ESTRO Asia. Notably, Dr Ha Thu won the prize for the best presentation in the Asian Summit of New Technology in Radiotherapy in Australia in 2023.
