Dr Stéphane Guero, who has earned a reputation as a magician in his field, performed operations on 10 disadvantaged children with hand malfunctions at FV Hospital between May 6 to May 11, 2019.
Dr Guero came to Vietnam on the invitation of the Children of Vietnam Charitable Fund. In compiling the list for patients for surgical treatment, the foundation found 10 youngsters to support in May and 5 more later in the year, in November. They come from many provinces across the country, such as Hanoi, Quang Nam, Lam Dong, Nha Trang, Daklak, Long An, Binh Duong, Ho Chi Minh City, Ca Mau and Soc Trang. Most of them suffer malfunctions of syndactyly, polydactyly, and symbrachydactyly. In addition, there are two cases of palmar fibromatosis due to severe burns.
After the consultation, Dr Stéphane Guero said: “Underprivileged children are not usually offered appropriate medical care early on, especially with malformation cases. Therefore, I want to provide them with my help to obtain proper hands and normal feet to be able to walk and live. Aesthetics elements should also be included so that they can confidently enjoy their lives as ordinary people.” With over 20 years of experience of hands surgery, especially children’s, Dr Guero not only specializes in rehabilitation but also in re-shaping, bringing natural beauty to patients’ hands and feet.

Children chosen by the Children of Vietnam Charitable Fund are living difficult lives. Lo Minh Hoa, 10 years old, from H’Mong, fell into burning sawdust while trying to walk, causing her severe burns, and her tendons shrank resulting in a hand malfunction. Nguyen Thanh Trung, 14 years old, from Thanh Oai, Hanoi, was born with a syndactyly deformity, resulting in an incapacity of handling anything. Both of them are orphans and now living with their grandparents. Their situations are so difficult that their families pray their hands could be healed, so that they could work normally like everyone else.
From mid-2018 until now, the Children of Vietnam Charitable Fund has received and treated more than 60 children with disadvantaged circumstances with a total expense of more than 3.5 billion VND. All cases are treated and taken care of at FV Hospital according to international standards like any other patient in the hospital. In addition, they also receive support for accommodation and travel expenses during the treatment process.
The Children of Vietnam Charitable Fund is a charitable foundation established by FV Hospital, specializing in receiving treatment and surgery for Vietnamese children under 16 years of age who have a disadvantaged background, suffering from birth deformities.
