Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia – The ‘Hard to Say’ but Easily Treatable Condition for Men

Among the potential prostate problems of middle-aged men, benign prostatic hyperplasia, also called prostate gland enlargement, is the most common prostate condition as men get older. This condition often causes sexual problems, specifically by causing irritating and embarrassing urination problems. Due to the nature of the problem, patients often do not go for a check-up until the condition gets worse.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a condition where there is an increase in the size of the prostate gland. This is a noncancerous and treatable urinary condition. However, without proper treatment, the severity of its symptoms can lead to further complications.

At the first stage, an enlarged prostate places pressure on the urethra, which makes urine harder to expel. Common symptoms include frequent or an urgent need to urinate, nocturia, difficulty starting urination, etc. This can greatly influence negatively on a patient’s quality of life.

The procrastination of having treatment may lead to urinary tract infections (UTIs). Here, an inability to fully empty the bladder can increase the risk of infection in the urinary tract. The complications may be dangerous, such as blood in the urine, bladder stones, bladder damage, kidney damage, etc.

There is an upward trend in men having BPH and it is seen to increase in the near future. The condition often causes embarrassment and a procrastination in seeking treatment which leads to further conditions.

At FV Hospital, you can share in confidence with our specialists your condition and receive advanced treatment with digital subtraction angiography (DSA). The exceptional advantages of this method are as follows:

  • No anaesthesia required.
  • Less complications.
  • Enhanced safety, especially not incurring serious effects on sexual health.
  • Preferable for older men as it avoids open surgery.

The patients are treated with vessel blockers under the principle to put pressure on muscles around the prostate to make the prostate slowly shrink stopping pressure on the urethra.

This is the minimum invasive technique, and subsequently the patient would only need to take a rest for only one hour before they could return home. In addition, the procedure causes no pain at all.

FV’s international standard Cathlab with its advanced DSA system is one of a few hospitals in Vietnam that can use the endoscopy for BPH and angiomyolipoma treatment. The experienced specialists at FV further ensure peace of mind when having treatment here.
