Healthy living with FV seminar: Early detection & treatment of childhood cancers

With the aim of disseminating information on paediatric healthcare issues and the detection of and prevention options for childhood diseases, FV Hospital held a seminar themed “EARLY DETECTION & TREATMENT OF CHILDHOOD CANCERS” at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, 11 January 2014 at Hotel Continental Saigon, 132 -134 Dong Khoi Street, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.

The seminar was attended by many parents and news agencies such as Phu Nu Thanh Pho Newspaper, VnExpress Online Newspaper and Saigon Time Online Newspaper. At the seminar, experts visiting from National University Hospital, Singapore (NUH) presented useful knowledge about how to early detect three common childhood cancers: retinoblastoma (a cancerous tumour of the retina), neuroblastoma (a cancerous tumour which develops in the nerve tissue), and acute leukemia (cancer of the white blood cells).

The two speakers were Associate Professor Quah Thuan Chong, who is senior consultant and head of the Division of Paediatric Haematology–Oncology at the Children’s Medical Institute, NUH; and Associate Professor Allen Yeoh Eng Juh, who is senior consultant and assistant professor at the Division of Paediatric Haematology–ncology at the Children’s Medical Institute, NUH.

The two associate professors gave a demonstration of positive progressions or results when applying such treatment options to paediatric cancer cases at NUH. After their presentation – even though the seminar had lasted longer than scheduled – Dr. Quah and Dr. Yeoh received many questions from attendees and parents with children with cancer.

FV Hospital signed a cooperation agreement with National University Hospital, Singapore (NUH) in April 2013. The cooperative programme broadens options for patients in Vietnam, enabling them to receive consultations and treatment from the world’s leading experts and to access the latest healthcare equipment and medical techniques more easily. The programme is also extremely beneficial for those with complicated diseases who need specialist treatment and surgical procedures currently unavailable in Vietnam. FV Hospital is partnering with the National University Hospital (NUH), Singapore, to offer patients cancer treatment within specialties like the head and neck, breast, obstetrical and gynecological, gastroenterology and hepatology.
Through this collaboration with NUH, FV Hospital has built a bridge to help patients with childhood cancers in Vietnam to access the most innovative and advanced treatment techniques available in the world today.
