In order to update diagnostic methods, manage diseases, and enhance the quality of treatment for lung cancer, FV Hospital is pleased to organise a medical symposium on the topic: “Early Screening and Management of Early Lung Cancer”. This symposium will take place on 9 November 2024 at the Riverside Palace Convention Centre in Ho Chi Minh City. It will feature presentations from leading experts in thoracic surgery, vascular surgery, oncology, and pulmonology, both from Vietnam and abroad.

Vu Truong Son, MD, MSc – Acting Medical Director, FV Hospital
Vu Truong Son, MD, MSc graduated from Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2007 and taught there for two years following his graduation. He earned his Master’s degree in Tropical Diseases and International Health at the Institute of Francophone Tropical Medicine (IFMT) in 2009.
Dr Vu Truong Son began working at FV Hospital in 2013 and officially became the Head of the Infectious Disease Department in 2022. In May 2023, Dr Vu Truong Son additionally took on the role of Deputy Medical Director. Starting from early August 2024, he has been entrusted by the FV Hospital Board of Directors with the position of Acting Medical Director.
At FV, Dr Vu Truong Son has always received high trust from the Board of Directors and colleagues for his contributions to important policies such as the Response to Global Infectious Diseases and Infection Control, which have been successfully developed and implemented in the hospital. Additionally, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr Son made significant contributions to the Infection Control Unit and Infectious Disease Department at FV.

Dr Do Kim Que graduated with a Medical Doctor degree from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City, in 1988. He pursued advanced medical training and scientific research, completing specialised cardiovascular surgery training programmes in Japan and France. He has also completed medical management and political theory courses, strengthening his leadership role in the medical field.
With an outstanding career in medicine, Assoc. Prof Do Kim Que, has made significant contributions in teaching, professional practice, and scientific research, particularly in coronary artery surgery, heart valve surgery, thoracic surgery, minimally invasive and endoscopic surgery, lung cancer, vascular surgery, and endovascular interventions.
Throughout his career, Dr Que has held key positions at major hospitals such as Cho Ray Hospital and Thong Nhat Hospital, where he has served as Vice Director since 2011. He also leads the Department of Thoracic, Cardiovascular, and Vascular Surgery at Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine and teaches at several prominent institutions, including the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City, the Faculty of Medicine at Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, Tra Vinh University, and the Military Medical Academy.
In addition to his clinical practice and teaching, Dr Que is actively involved in domestic and international professional associations. He serves as President of Asia Association of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and Vice President of Vietnam Association of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. He has published dozens of scientific papers and contributed to books on cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, playing a crucial role in advancing knowledge and skills in this field.

Luong Ngoc Trung, MD, MSc – Head of Thoracic, Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Department, FV Hospital
Dr Luong Ngoc Trung graduated with a medical degree from Hue University of Medicine in 2001 and completed his residency and master’s degree in surgery in 2005. He received specialised training at Rangeuil Hospital in Toulouse and Paul Sabatier University, France, during 2006-2007. Additionally, he earned an advanced specialty degree in Thoracic and Vascular Surgery from Sorbonne University’s Pierre and Marie Curie Medical School in Paris and completed specialised training in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Pitié Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris in 2016.
Before joining FV Hospital in 2017, Dr Trung worked at Tam Duc Heart Hospital for eight years and Hue Central Hospital for five years. He has extensive expertise in diagnosis and treatment of vascular diseases, performing endovascular interventions, and conducting heart and thoracic surgeries. As of November 2023, Dr Luong Ngoc Trung holds the position of Head of Thoracic, Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Department.
Dr Trung’s rich medical experience and dedication to patient care have earned him a reputation for excellence in his field. He has been instrumental in building and expanding the Thoracic, Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Department at FV Hospital, which has become well-known and trusted by many patients. Beyond his professional work, Dr Trung is also deeply committed to helping underprivileged children in need of treatment through the “The Children of Vietnam Charitable Fund” a charity founded by FV Hospital. Over the years, he has actively contributed to the fund by successfully treating children with vascular malformations, haemangioma, pectus excavatum, and other conditions.

Su Jang Wen, MBBS., MMed. – Cardiothoracic Surgeon and Lung Cancer Specialist, O2 Healthcare Group
Su Jang Wen, MBBS., MMed. graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Melbourne, Australia in 1998. Subsequently, he obtained his Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) and his Master of Medicine from the National University of Singapore in 2002 and 2003 respectively. In 2006, Dr Su became a Fellow of Royal College of Surgeons (Cardiothoracic Surgery, Edinburgh) and was the first ever Singapore candidate to be awarded the gold medal for the Fellowship examination. In the same year, Dr Su became a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine (Singapore) – Gold Medallist.
From 2007-2009, Dr Su completed intensive training for both Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery. He was the first foreign fellow to be assigned the highly sought-after Chief Fellow of the Thoracic Surgery & Lung Transplantation Programme at the Cleveland Clinic which has been ranked as top Cardiothoracic Centre in the United States of America since 1995. He received comprehensive training under world-renowned Thoracic & Oesophageal Surgeon.
Upon returning to Singapore in 2009, Dr Su served as a Consultant in The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, National Heart Centre Singapore, making him one of the youngest ever cardiothoracic surgeons in the world. Since 2007, Dr Su has accumulated extensive experience having carried out more than 7,000 thousands of heart, lung and oesophageal surgeries.
He is also a visiting lecturer at the National Cancer Centre Singapore and Changi General Hospital. During his practice at National Heart Centre Singapore, he held the record of having no mortalities in all his elective thoracic surgery as well as most cardiac surgery (coronary artery bypass graft, cardiac valves and acute aortic dissection).
Dr Su is a member of the International Society of Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery, International Society of Heart Lung Transplantation, Singapore Oncology Society, Singapore Cardiac Society, Singapore Thoracic Society, Singapore Heart Lung Transplantation Society, Chapter of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Academy of Medicine, Singapore.

Dr Basma M’Barek – Head of Hy Vong Cancer Care Centre, FV Hospital
Dr Basma M’Barek graduated from Tunis El Manar University in Tunisia (2002), Paris VI University (2003), and obtained a Master’s in Human Genetics from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Tunisia. She has worked at major hospitals in France, including Gustave Roussy Cancer Hospital, Saint Louis University Hospital, and Le Raincy Montfermeil Hospital. She is a member of the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO). Since August 2018, Dr Basma M’Barek has held the position of Head of Hy Vong Cancer Care Centre at FV Hospital.
Throughout her time working in Vietnam, Dr Basma has actively engaged with and connected medical communities in various public and private hospitals to learn and share knowledge and experiences, aiming to provide comprehensive care for cancer patients in Vietnam. She has participated in hundreds of presentations at hospitals and cancer associations in Vietnam, trained at universities as a guest lecturer, and contributed to publish journals, research articles and books on cancer treatment. Additionally, she has connected and invited international radiation therapy experts to Vietnam to share their experiences at radiation conferences organised by FV Hospital.
With many years of experience in the field of oncology, Dr Basma M’Barek places great emphasis on developing standardised procedures for new techniques to enhance treatment effectiveness. She participates in international scientific conferences and studies treatment guidelines for oncology in advanced countries, adapting them to the treatment practices in Vietnam.
Dr Basma also serves as a liaison with a network of doctors in France, Europe, and India, participating in the consultation of challenging cases and deploying advanced treatment techniques such as Targeted Therapy, Immunotherapy, VMAT, SBRT, SBS, TBI, and Brachytherapy, which have provided many successful treatment opportunities for Vietnamese patients. Through the application of modern medical techniques and keeping abreast of new treatment trends in developed countries, the Hy Vong Cancer Care Centre at FV Hospital strives to establish and implement cancer treatment protocols, and offer a healthcare environment for patients in Vietnam that is on par with centres in advanced countries.

Nguyen Van Tho, MD, PhD – Head of Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases Department, University of Medicine and Pharmacy HCMC
Dr Nguyen Van Tho graduated from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City, in 2000, completed his residency in Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases in 2004, and earned his Master of Medicine from the same university in 2008. He continued his studies and received a Doctorate of Medicine from Shiga University of Medical Science, Japan, in 2015. Additionally, he participated in advanced training in Respiratory and Intensive Care at Singapore General Hospital in 2007 and was awarded the Harasawa Scholarship from the Japanese Respiratory Society to study and conduct research in the Department of Respiratory Medicine at Shiga University of Medical Science, Japan (2009-2010).
Dr Tho has extensive experience working at various prestigious institutions, including the Respiratory Function Testing Department at the University Medical Centre Ho Chi Minh City (since 2003), and in clinical departments such as COPD, Lung Cancer, Tuberculosis, and Non-Tuberculosis Lung Diseases at Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City (since 2000). Since November 2020, Dr Tho has been a part of FV Hospital’s Respiratory Medicine Unit in the Department of Internal Medicine, where he not only diagnoses and treats complex lung conditions but also performs flexible bronchoscopy and endobronchial ultrasound. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr Tho has been a clinical lecturer since 2005 and is currently the Head of the Department of Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City.
With over 20 years of experience, his expertise in treating asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), respiratory diseases, and using functional imaging in the management of thoracic diseases has significantly improved the lives of many patients.

Specialist Level II, Le Tien Dung, MD, PhD – Vice Director, Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital
Dr Le Tien Dung graduated from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City, in 1989. He later completed his Specialist Level 1 degree in 2003, followed by a thoracic surgery internship in Paris, France, in 2004. In 2010, he earned his Specialist Level 2 degree in Thoracic Surgery from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City, and in 2020, he received his Doctorate of Medicine from the Military Medical Academy, Hanoi. Dr Dung is a highly regarded expert in thoracic surgery, with over 30 years of experience.
Currently, Dr Dung serves as the Vice Director of Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, where he has also been the Head of the Thoracic Surgery Department since 2003. In addition, he holds the position of Deputy Head of the Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Department at Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine, Ho Chi Minh City, and is a member of the executive committee of the Vietnam Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. Since 2018, he has also been working at FV Hospital as a pulmonary and thoracic surgery specialist.
Dr Dung specialises in thoracic surgery, particularly, the surgical treatment of lung cancer, where he has successfully treated numerous patients, significantly improving their quality of life. With fluency in both Vietnamese and English, he is able to build trust and provide reassurance to his patients. His extensive experience and high level of expertise have made him one of the leading thoracic surgeons in Vietnam.
