FV HOSPITAL ORGANISES CME TRAINING PROGRAMME: BREAST CANCER – FROM SCREENING TO TREATMENT

Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among women, requiring a multidisciplinary approach from screening and diagnosis to treatment to ensure optimal patient outcomes. To update healthcare professionals on the latest medical advancements, FV Hospital is organising a CME Training Programme on “Breast Cancer – From Screening to Treatment” on 15th March 2025, from 08:30 to 13:30, at Riverside Palace Convention Centre, 360D Ben Van Don Street, Ward 1, District 4, Ho Chi Minh City.

The medical symposium will feature speakers who are experienced Oncology doctors:

ORGANISER’S REPRESENTATIVE

VU TRUONG SON, MD, MSC – MEDICAL DIRECTOR, FV HOSPITAL

Vu Truong Son, MD, MSc graduated from Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2007 and taught there for two years following his graduation. He earned his Master’s degree in Tropical Diseases and International Health at the Institute of Francophone Tropical Medicine (IFMT) in 2009.

Dr Vu Truong Son began working at FV Hospital in 2013 and officially became the Head of the Infectious Disease Department in 2022. In May 2023, Dr Vu Truong Son additionally took on the role of Deputy Medical Director. Starting from early August 2024, he has been entrusted by the FV Hospital Board of Directors with the position of Acting Medical Director and he officially assumed the position of Medical Director in February 2025.

At FV, Dr Vu Truong Son has always received high trust from the Board of Directors and colleagues for his contributions to important policies such as the Response to Global Infectious Diseases and Infection Control, which have been successfully developed and implemented in the hospital. Additionally, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr Son made significant contributions to the Infection Control Unit and Infectious Disease Department at FV.


CHAIRMAN

ASSOC. PROF. CUNG THI TUYET ANH, MD, PHD

Assoc. Prof. Cung Thi Tuyet Anh, MD, PhD, is one of Vietnam’s leading experts in oncology, with nearly 40 years of experience in cancer research, teaching, and treatment.

She specialised in oncology and graduated from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City, in 1984. In 2006, she successfully defended her doctoral thesis in General Surgery at the same university. She was awarded the title of Associate Professor in 2010.

Assoc. Prof. Cung Thi Tuyet Anh, MD, PhD, began her career at Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital in 1988, initially working as a treating physician before advancing to Head of the General Radiotherapy Department.

Alongside her hospital work, she has been a lecturer at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City, since 1988. In 2010, she was appointed Deputy Head of the Department of Oncology, where she played a key role in training thousands of oncology specialists. 

Since 2015, Assoc. Prof. Cung Thi Tuyet Anh, MD, PhD, has retired from management roles but remains actively involved in the field. She continues to contribute to radiotherapy and multidisciplinary tumour board consultations at the Oncology Hospital, as well as teaching postgraduate courses.

With her extensive knowledge, dedication, and vast experience, Assoc. Prof. Cung Thi Tuyet Anh, MD, PhD, has played a key role in advancing oncology in Vietnam. She is widely recognised as a distinguished figure in medical education, treatment, and scientific research in the field of oncology.

DR BASMA M’BAREK – HEAD OF HY VONG CANCER CARE CENTRE, FV HOSPITAL

Dr Basma M’Barek graduated from Tunis El Manar University in Tunisia (2002), Paris VI University (2003), and obtained a Master’s in Human Genetics from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Tunisia. She has worked at major hospitals in France, including Gustave Roussy Cancer Hospital, Saint Louis University Hospital, and Le Raincy Montfermeil Hospital. She is a member of the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO). Since August 2018, Dr Basma M’Barek has held the position of Head of Hy Vong Cancer Care Centre at FV Hospital.

Throughout her time working in Vietnam, Dr Basma has actively engaged with and connected medical communities in various public and private hospitals to learn and share knowledge and experiences, aiming to provide comprehensive care for cancer patients in Vietnam.

She has participated in hundreds of presentations at hospitals and cancer associations in Vietnam, trained at universities as a guest lecturer, and contributed to publish journals, research articles and books on cancer treatment. Additionally, she has connected and invited international radiation therapy experts to Vietnam to share their experiences at radiation conferences organised by FV Hospital.

With many years of experience in the field of oncology, Dr Basma M’Barek places great emphasis on developing standardised procedures for new techniques to enhance treatment effectiveness. She participates in international scientific conferences and studies treatment guidelines for oncology in advanced countries, adapting them to the treatment practices in Vietnam.

Dr Basma also serves as a liaison with a network of doctors in France, Europe, and India, participating in the consultation of challenging cases and deploying advanced treatment techniques such as Targeted Therapy, Immunotherapy, VMAT, SBRT, SBS, TBI, and Brachytherapy, which have provided many successful treatment opportunities for Vietnamese patients. Through the application of modern medical techniques and keeping abreast of new treatment trends in developed countries, the Hy Vong Cancer Care Centre at FV Hospital strives to establish and implement cancer treatment protocols, and offer a healthcare environment for patients in Vietnam that is on par with centres in advanced countries.

DR PHUNG NGOC THU, SPECIALIST LEVEL I – IMAGING SPECIALIST, OBSTETRICS & GYNAECOLOGY – BREAST CARE CLINIC, FV HOSPITAL

Dr Phung Ngoc Thu, Specialist Level I, graduated as a General Practitioner in 2002 and later earned a Specialist Level I degree in Diagnostic Imaging with distinction from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City.

Dr Phung Ngoc Thu has 20 years of hands-on experience in women’s health, having worked at both public and private hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City, including Tu Du Hospital, International Maternity Hospital, Hanh Phuc Hospital, Tam Anh Hospital, and Vinmec Hospital. She is among the pioneers in Southern Vietnam in successfully implementing a multimodal approach and advanced interventions for the diagnosis and treatment of breast diseases. Following the principle of “early diagnosis, minimal intervention, and maximum effectiveness,” Dr Phung Ngoc Thu is dedicated to reducing breast cancer mortality rates and their impact.

As a woman herself, she is deeply committed to preserving beauty and confidence, ultimately enhancing the quality of life and well-being of Vietnamese women.

As of March 2025, Dr Phung Ngoc Thu, Specialist Level I, will officially join FV Hospital, working in the Obstetrics & Gynaecology – Breast Care Clinic, FV Hospital.


SPECIALIST LEVEL II, TRAN VIET THE PHUONG, MD, PHD – DEPUTY HEAD OF THE BREAST SURGERY DEPARTMENT, HO CHI MINH CITY ONCOLOGY HOSPITAL

Dr Tran Viet The Phuong graduated from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City, in 1992. He later obtained a Specialist Level I degree in Oncology (residency programme) in 1996, a master’s degree in medicine in 1998, a Specialist Level II degree in Oncology in 2005, and a PhD in Oncology in 2013, all from the same university.

To further enhance his expertise, Dr The Phuong has participated in advanced training programmes both domestically and internationally, including Head & Neck Oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center, USA (2000); CJ Fellowship at Severance Hospital, South Korea (2008); Breast Health International Fellowship at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, UK (2009); European Institute of Oncology, Milan, Italy (2009); and National Cancer Center, Singapore (2009). Dr Tran Viet The Phuong was the first breast surgeon in Vietnam to perform the Vacuum-Assisted Breast Biopsy (VABB) technique.

He is also an active member of several prestigious medical organizations, including the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the International Society of Surgery (ISS), and the Vietnam Society of Aesthetic Surgery. Additionally, he serves as a reviewer for the Archives of Plastic Surgery journal in South Korea.

With nearly 30 years of experience in diagnosing and treating breast-related conditions, including breast cancer, gynecomastia, breast aesthetics, and breast reconstruction, Dr The Phuong previously worked for many years in the Breast Surgery Department at Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital (1999–2006).

Since 2012, Dr The Phuong has been a key member of the Obstetrics & Gynaecology – Breast Care Clinic at FV Hospital, specialising in breast surgery. His goal is to provide patients with advanced and effective treatment methods, helping women regain confidence and enjoy life to the fullest.


DR KAHOUADJI MOHAMMED NASSIM – LABORATORY & BLOOD BANK DEPARTMENT, FV HOSPITAL

Dr Kahouadji Mohammed Nassim is a highly experienced pathologist specialising in anatomical pathology and cytology. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Abou Bekr Belkaid University, Tlemcen, Algeria, in 2007, before pursuing advanced training in Paris, France.

Throughout his career, Dr Nassim has held key positions at leading medical institutions, including Gustave Roussy Cancer Institute (2011–2015); Foch Hospital, Suresnes (2015–2016); and Groupement Hospitalier de Territoire Grand Paris Nord-Est (Greater Paris Region) (2017–2019).

He specialises in cancer diagnosis, histopathological analysis, and enhancing diagnostic accuracy in complex cases. In 2019, Dr Nassim joined FV Hospital and has been leading the Pathology Unit within the Laboratory and Blood Bank Department.

Under his leadership, FV Hospital successfully launched its in-house Pathology Service in 2020, significantly reducing diagnostic and treatment timelines while improving overall patient care quality.

Dr Nassim plays a crucial role in maintaining FV Hospital’s laboratory services to international standards, contributing to more efficient and high-quality patient treatments.


VO KIM DIEN, MD, MSC – DEPUTY HEAD OF HY VONG CANCER CARE CENTRE, FV HOSPITAL

Dr Vo Kim Dien is an oncology specialist with over 30 years of experience in cancer treatment and management, particularly in radiotherapy, breast cancer, gynaecologic cancers, and head and neck cancers.

He graduated with a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City, in 1988 followed by a master’s degree in Oncology from the same institution. To further refine his expertise, he completed specialized radiotherapy training at Georges-François Leclerc Cancer Center, Dijon, France, in 1995.

Dr Dien has held prominent roles at leading medical institutions, including the Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Center (now Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital), where he served as a senior oncologist and Deputy Head of the Head and Neck Radiotherapy Department.

Since 2003, Dr Vo Kim Dien has been a senior oncologist at FV Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, where he has played a key role in advancing cancer treatment and enhancing patient care.

With his extensive experience and expertise, Dr Dien is recognized as one of Vietnam’s leading oncology specialists. His commitment to enhancing treatment quality and patient care continues to make a significant impact on the field of oncology.
