To update the knowledge and modern medical trends in the treatment of gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary diseases within the medical community, and discuss the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to enhance diagnostic and treatment effectiveness, FV Hospital is organising a medical symposium titled “Multidisciplinary Approach in the Treatment of Gastrointestinal and Hepatobiliary Diseases”. The event will take place from 08:30 to 13:30 on 24th August 2024, at Adora Grandview Convention Centre, 421 Ngo Gia Tu, Ward 9, District 5, Ho Chi Minh City.

Vu Truong Son, MD, MSc – Acting Medical Director, FV Hospital
Vu Truong Son, MD, MSc graduated from Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2007 and taught there for two years following his graduation. He earned his Master’s degree in Tropical Diseases and International Health at the Institute of Francophone Tropical Medicine (IFMT) in 2009.
Dr Vu Truong Son began working at FV Hospital in 2013 and officially became the Head of the Infectious Disease Department in 2022. In May 2023, Dr Vu Truong Son additionally took on the role of Deputy Medical Director. Starting from early August 2024, he has been entrusted by the FV Hospital Board of Directors with the position of Acting Medical Director.
At FV, Dr Vu Truong Son has always received high trust from the Board of Directors and colleagues for his contributions to important policies such as the Response to Global Infectious Diseases and Infection Control, which have been successfully developed and implemented in the hospital. Additionally, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr Son made significant contributions to the Infection Control Unit and Infectious Disease Department at FV.

Specialist Level II, Phan Van Thai, MD, MSc – Head of General Surgery Department, FV Hospital
Specialist Level II, Phan Van Thai, MD, MSc graduated in 1998 from Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy. In 2002, he completed his residency in General Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, and Vascular Surgery, and obtained his Specialisation Degree Level I in General Surgery along with a Master’s degree in Medicine at Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy. In 2014, he also received his Specialisation Degree Level II at Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy.
Additionally, Specialist Level II, Phan Van Thai, MD, MSc regularly participates in advanced training courses in Gastrointestinal Surgery, Hepatobiliary-Pancreatic Surgery both domestically and internationally, including in France (2012), Japan (2018), and Taiwan (2022). Dr Phan Van Thai is one of the first Vietnamese surgeons to join FV Hospital. He is regarded as a highly skilled, thorough, and dedicated physician in specialised techniques. He is also well-loved by many patients and colleagues for his passion, talent in his work, and his amiable and respectful demeanour. According to statistics from the past five years, Dr Phan Van Thai has performed the most surgeries and received the most thank-you letters within the General Surgery Department at FV Hospital.
Since May 2018, Dr Phan Van Thai has been serving as the Head of General Surgery Department at FV Hospital. He specialises in areas such as liver and pancreas surgery, endoscopic surgery, and thyroid surgery. In recent years, Dr Thai has also been very successful in treating over 30 cases of obesity using minimally invasive endoscopic gastric sleeve surgery.

Specialist Level II, Bui Nhuan Quy, MD, MSc graduated from Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine in 2004, received a Master’s degree in Internal Medicine from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City in 2012, and became a Specialist Level II in Internal Medicine in 2021 from Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine.
Additionally, Dr Bui Nhuan Quy has participated in advanced training courses in his specialty such as Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (2006), Colonoscopy (2015), Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio-Pancreatography (ERCP) (2017), and a short-term fellowship in Gastroenterology at Nagoya University School of Medicine, Nagoya, Japan in 2017.
Dr Bui Nhuan Quy has 17 years of experience working at the Gastroenterology & Hepatology Department – Gia Dinh People’s Hospital and was the Deputy Head of the Endoscopy Department there. In July 2021, Dr Bui Nhuan Quy was appointed as the Head of Gastroenterology & Hepatology Department, FV Hospital.
Dr Bui Nhuan Quy is considered one of the leading gastroenterologists in Ho Chi Minh City, with deep expertise in early diagnosis of gastric cancer; gastrointestinal endoscopy; ERCP; and Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS). With 10 years of experience in endoscopy and 7 years in the clinical treatment of gastrointestinal diseases in general, Dr Quy specialises in diagnosing and treating gastrointestinal issues: stomach, duodenal, and oesophageal diseases (inflammation, ulcers, polyps, cancer), colon diseases (inflammation, ulcers, polyps, irritable bowel syndrome, etc), liver diseases (chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, liver cancer, etc), bile duct diseases, gallstones. He has successfully treated many cases with highly impressive results, earning the trust and affection of many patients.

Ho Dang Quy Dung MD, PhD – Head of Endoscopy Department, Cho Ray Hospital & President, Vietnamese Federation for Digestive Endoscopy
Ho Dang Quy Dung, MD, PhD, is a prominent gastroenterologist and endoscopy expert currently working at Cho Ray Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City. Dr Dung graduated from Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 1996. Dr Dung subsequently pursued training in gastrointestinal endoscopy both domestically and internationally, including at Kyushu University Hospital in Japan and Kitasato University Hospital.
Dr Dung’s medical career officially began at C Hospital in Da Nang, where he worked from 1996 to 2004. In 2005, he joined Cho Ray Hospital and has served as the Head of the Endoscopy Department since January 2006. Dr Dung possesses a diverse range of clinical skills, including various endoscopic techniques such as Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), and other therapeutic endoscopic interventions. His commitment to advancing endoscopic techniques is demonstrated by his participation in prestigious international training programs, including the “Train-the-Trainer” course by Asian EUS Group and New Stars Program by WEO. Since 2016, Dr Ho Dang Quy Dung has held the position of President of the Vietnam Endoscopy Society.
Dr Dung is also an accomplished scholar, with numerous publications in leading gastroenterology journals. His research covers a wide range of topics, from Helicobacter pylori infection to the development of endoscopic techniques. His contributions to the field have been widely recognised and play a crucial role in shaping the future of endoscopic practice through his involvement in international medical associations and on-going research initiatives. As a leading expert in gastroenterology, Dr Dung continues to advance both clinical practice and academic knowledge in gastrointestinal endoscopy, making a significant impact on the field both in Vietnam and internationally.
Dr Jarrod Lee – Founder & CEO, GUTCARE Singapore
Dr Jarrod Lee is the founder of GUTCARE, Singapore’s premier sub-specialty gastroenterology group practice. He graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1998 and attained specialist accreditation in Gastroenterology in 2009. In 2010, he established the Gastroenterology Service and Endoscopy Centre at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital before transitioning to private practice in 2013. Dr Lee founded GUTCARE in 2014, which has since grown to include seven gastroenterologists and six clinics, making it the largest gastroenterology practice in Singapore. GUTCARE has received numerous accolades, including the Singapore Prestige Brand Award in 2023 and the Global Health ‘Gastroenterology Clinic of the Year Asia Pacific’ for four consecutive years.
Dr Lee is a distinguished endoscopist, honoured with the international FASGE title in recognition of his contributions to the field. He is noted for his expertise in advanced endoscopy and innovative techniques, having been awarded the ASGE AV Award in 2011 for his submission, selected from over 100 entries. His endoscopic ultrasound technique is included in the ASGE Learning Library, serving as an international benchmark.
Regularly invited as a faculty member at endoscopic workshops and conferences, Dr Lee frequently lectures and demonstrates advanced endoscopy, digestive cancers, and pancreatobiliary disorders. He is recognised as a ‘Key Opinion Leader’ in endoscopy, involved in evaluating new technologies and consulting for leading endoscopic companies. Dr Lee reviews for top endoscopy journals and continues to lead as CEO of GUTCARE, where he is a pioneering figure in quality metrics and endoscopic techniques in Singapore.
Specialist Level II, Nguyen Viet Quynh Thu, MD, MSc, Head of Nutrition & Dietetics Department, FV Hospital
Specialist Level II, Nguyen Viet Quynh Thu, MD, MSc, graduated as a General Doctor from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City in 1999. Following that, Dr Quynh Thu received a Specialisation Degree Level I in Internal Medicine in 2007 and a Specialisation Degree Level II in Internal Medicine in 2011 from Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy.
She received a Master’s degree in Nutrition from Women’s University of Japan in 2008 and a Diploma in Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism of ESPEN in 2019. Doctor Quynh Thu has also participated in many specialised training courses domestically and abroad such as the Total Nutrition Therapy in Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Indonesia; Advanced Clinical Nutrition, and Nutrition Support Team in Japan and LLL ESPEN courses held in Denmark, Poland, Spain, Philippines and Vietnam.
Dr Quynh Thu has more than 15 years of experience in the eld of Clinical Nutrition in medical treatment; specially, she was the Head of the Nutrition Department of Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital and has been managing the Nutrition Department for over 10 years.
Besides, Doctor Quynh Thu also participated in examination and treatment at some important specialties such as Gastroenterology (2000 – 2005), Endocrinology (2005 – 2006) and Endocrinology (2006 – 2015) at Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital. Doctor Quynh Thu has officially worked at FV Hospital since February 2016, as the only Senior Treatment Doctor, Department of Clinical Nutrition.
Then, Doctor Quynh Thu held the position of Head of Nutrition & Dietetics Unit, FV Hospital from 2017 to 2021 and from May 2021, Doctor Nguyen Viet Quynh Thu was officially appointed as Head of Nutrition and Dietetics Department at FV Hospital.
Currently, Doctor Quynh Thu also holds the position of Vice President of the Vietnam Dietetics Association (VDA). In addition to professional work at the department, Dr Thu regularly organises and teaches clinical nutrition training classes for medical staff, participates in setting up nutritional treatment forms and protocols in the hospital. Dr Quynh Thu also actively communicates and educates on nutrition through patient and community clubs, participates in television programs on nutrition counselling, writes articles on nutrition topics.
