Colorectal cancer is the third most commonly occurring cancer in men and the second most commonly occurring cancer in women. Colorectal cancer is the second most common cause of death from cancer.
American and European cancer organisations recommend that, starting at the age of 45, both men and women should be screened for Early Detection of Colorectal Cancer by having either:
- A colonoscopy every 10 years, or
- A CT colonography (virtual colonoscopy) every 5 years
Some people should be screened using a different schedule because of their personal history or family history. Talk with your doctor about your history and what colorectal cancer screening schedule is best for you.

Important notice
- You will be sold a voucher
- Please bring this voucher at the Gastro-Enterology Department where you will be given an appointment with an anaesthetist, a prescription and an appointment for your test
- Note that a colonoscopy requires a day ward admission and a pre-anaesthesia consultation
- This voucher includes standard fee of CBC, PT, APTT and pre-anaesthesia consultation. Other exams and additional tests are not included.
- Consult your doctor if you are taking blood thinner or aspirin as you will need to stop taking these drugs seven days before colonoscopy
- Your bowel must be empty for the colonoscopy, so that the gastro-enterologist can see the lining of your bowel. To achieve this, you will need to alter your diet and take a specific preparation for a few days before the procedure.
- The result of the test will be explained to you by your gastro-enterologist after the test before you leave the Day Ward
- You will later receive an official report
- This package doesn’t include the cost of polyp removal and biopsy
- Check with your insurance whether colorectal cancer screening is covered in your policy
