In the last week of April, FV Hospital extended its heartfelt gratitude to the Laboratory & Blood Bank team who have always worked hard, especially during the pandemic years. This year’s Medical Laboratory Professionals Week is also an opportunity for FV to join the global effort to honour and show gratitude to pathologists, laboratory specialists and staff working in the biomedical testing field around the world.
On the afternoon of April 26, members of the Board of Directors and representatives of medical equipment suppliers participated in a ceremony for the Laboratory and Blood Bank. The event was held in an elegant space at the hospital’s new canteen. The representative of the Board of Directors, Medical Director Dr Do Trong Khanh, expressed his sincere thanks and congratulations to all staff at the Laboratory & Blood Bank Department. “The Department has proven its important role, as well as affirmed its incredible capacity during the COVID-19 outbreak,” he added.
To mark this ceremony, Mr Sten Westgard, Director of Client Services and Technology for Westgard QC, sent his virtual congratulations to the Laboratory & Blood Bank Department, as well as to FV Hospital. Mr Westgard shared: “I fully appreciate the excellent quality of services offered at FV Laboratory and I hope that this department will continue to grow and celebrate more accomplishments in the future. I would also like to thank every member of departmental staff for all of their hard work for patients during the COVID-19 pandemic.” In August 2019, FV Laboratory & Blood Bank received the Sigma Verification of Performance (Sigma VP) certificate from Westgard QC, an organisation which evaluates the quality and efficiency of laboratory practices, worldwide.
In addition to being an incredibly effective unit in the fight against COVID-19 in 2021, the Laboratory & Blood Bank Department has constantly innovated and obtained practical certifications to guarantee the quality of its services. By the end of 2021, the Faculty has increased the total number of ISO 15189:2012 certified tests to 16 types. In addition, the Department is the first private hospital laboratory in Vietnam allowed to confirm COVID-19 results by Realtime PCR.
On behalf of the staff of the Laboratory and Blood Bank Department, Head of Department Mr Friend Maviza thanked the Board of Directors and staff at FV for their support. “I would also like to give special thanks to my colleagues at the Lab. We have done our best and achieved good results for the hard work that needed to be done. We all understand deeply that the Laboratory is a department where processes are highly complicated and must be executed to exacting standards,” added Mr Friend.
During this special ceremony, the staff at the Laboratory & Blood Bank also shared their thoughts. Dr Nguyen Thuy Loan Chi (Department of Laboratory & Blood Bank) says she is very happy to work in such a dynamic and enthusiastic team. She also thanked the hospital for creating a special occasion to honour staff who are dedicated to the field of medical testing, a rare occurrence in the industry. Hopefully, in the future, Medical Laboratory Professionals Week will not only be celebrated at FV but be replicated throughout Vietnam. This will help patients and laboratory staff connect with each other, thereby increasing understanding, efficiency and synergy in the treatment process.
Medical Laboratory Professionals Week (MLPW) takes place in the last week of April every year. The event was first organised in 1975 by the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS).
The event honours medical laboratory professionals and pathologists who play an important role in the healthcare of patients around the world. This year, the 47th anniversary of this event took place from April 24 to April 30. This is the second time that the Medical Laboratory Professionals Week has been officially put into the hospital’s annual calendar at FV.
