Sleep apnoea is a common sleep-related breathing disorder often associated with metabolic diseases. Obese individuals are at a high risk for sleep apnoea, with a prevalence rate of 45%, leading to adverse cardiovascular outcomes and even sudden death.
To align with the latest global medical trends and update knowledge and more effective treatment methods for sleep-related disorders such as sleep apnoea and snoring, FV Hospital is organising a CME Training Programme: “Comprehensive Approach and Treatment of Snoring and Sleep Apnoea Syndrome”. Organiser Representative: Vu Truong Son, MD, MSc – Deputy Medical Director, FV Hospital
Vu Truong Son, MD, MSc graduated from Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2007 and taught there for two years following his graduation. He earned his Master’s degree in Tropical Diseases and International Health at the Institute of Francophone Tropical Medicine (IFMT) in 2009.
Dr Vu Truong Son began working at FV Hospital in 2013 and officially became the Head of the Infectious Disease Department in 2022. Since May 2023, he was also appointed the position of Deputy Medical Director.
Through his years at FV Hospital, Dr Vu Truong Son has garnered high trust from the Board of Directors and colleagues alike. He has contributing significantly to the development and successful implementation of critical policies such as the Response to Global Infectious Diseases and Infection Control. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr Vu Truong Son made numerous positive contributions to FV’s Infection Control Unit and Infectious Diseases Department. As the Deputy Medical Director, Dr Son actively connects the community of doctors inside and outside the hospital, both domestically and internationally, to manage and treat complex cases. He focuses on the development of new technical services as well as FV hospital’s training and scientific research activities.
Chairman: Chau Chieu Hoa, MD, PhD – Director of Can Tho ENT Hospital
Chau Chieu Hoa, MD, PhD graduated with a degree in Medicine from Can Tho University in 1999. Continuing his academic pursuits, he earned a Master’s degree in Medicine from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Ho Chi Minh City in 2005 and a PhD in Otorhinolaryngology from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Hanoi in 2013, with a dissertation on “Clinical Morphology of Midface Trauma and the Evaluation of Surgical Interventions.”Dr Chieu Hoa began his career at Can Tho ENT Hospital as a treating physician from November 1999 to December 2006. He then held various management positions within the hospital: Deputy Head of the General Planning Department from December 2006 to June 2008, Head of the General Planning Department from June 2008 to September 2011, and Deputy Director from September 2011 to April 2019. Since April 2019, he has been serving as the Director of Can Tho ENT Hospital.
Through his dedication and relentless efforts, Dr Chau Chieu Hoa has significantly contributed to the enhancement of medical care quality and the development of professional expertise at Can Tho ENT Hospital, reinforcing the hospital’s respected position in Vietnam’s healthcare sector.
Specialist Level II, Dr Ho Le Hoai Nhan – Deputy Director of Can Tho ENT Hospital
Dr Ho Le Hoai Nhan, Specialist Level II is an experienced ENT specialist currently serving as the Deputy Director of Can Tho ENT Hospital. He completed his specialisation in otorhinolaryngology at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Ho Chi Minh City in 2002. He pursued further studies, earning a Specialist I degree from the same university between 2003 and 2005, and obtained a Specialist II degree in ENT from the University of Medicine in Hanoi in 2013.
Throughout his career, Dr Nhan has led several significant scientific research projects. In 2009, he presented a study on the “underlay technique for tympanic membrane perforation closure” at the National ENT Conference. This was followed by research on endoscopic surgery for attic cholesteatoma (2012), tympanostomy tube insertion for treating otitis media in children (2014), and various other studies on the treatment of ear and sinus infections. More recently, from 2021 to 2023, Dr Nhan focused his efforts to research related to endoscopic radical mastoidectomy and the treatment of temporal bone fractures. His contributions have not only improved treatment outcomes but also played a vital role in the advancement of the ENT speciality in Vietnam.
Moderator: Vo Cong Minh, MD, PhD – Head of Otorhinolaryngology (ORL or ENT) Department, FV Hospital
Vo Cong Minh, MD, PhD graduated with a medical degree from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City. He continued his studies there, participating in the residency programme choosing specialised training in Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) from 2002 to 2005. Dr Minh was among the top students, graduating with honours in both programmes. He earned his Master of Medicine degree from the same university in 2010. Dr Minh has obtained several specialised training certificates, including Facial Plastic Surgery from the University of Tennessee Health Science Centre in 2004, Endoscopic ENT Surgery from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City in 2009, Nasal and Skull Base Endoscopy from the University of North Carolina in 2015, and Observational Experience in Head and Neck Cancer Surgery from the University of Texas Health Science Centre in 2015. In 2021, Dr Vo Cong Minh successfully defended his PhD thesis in Medicine at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City.
Dr Vo Cong Minh has been working in the ENT Department of the University Medical Centre HCMC since 2007. During this time, in addition to being a senior treating physician in the ENT Department, he has also specialised in nasal and skull base surgery. Dr Minh is recognised as an experienced surgeon in handling ear, head, and neck surgeries and has made valuable contributions to medical research in the ENT Department of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City. Since March 2021, Dr Vo Cong Minh was officially engaged as the Head of Otorhinolaryngology (ORL or ENT) Department at FV Hospital.

Dr Barrie Tan is a senior consultant and ENT surgeon with over 20 years of clinical experience, specialising in ENT conditions and head and neck diseases in both children and adults. He received a Singapore Government academic scholarship in 1994 and has held numerous key leadership positions in the field of ENT. From 2013 to 2019, he served as ENT Department at Singapore General Hospital (SGH), where he oversaw the expansion of clinical services and organised the annual SGH ENT Instructional Course Fortnight. He also served as the President of the Singapore Society of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery from 2017 to 2019 and the President of the ASEAN Federation of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery from 2019 to 2021.
Currently, Dr Barrie Tan is the ENT – Head & Neck Surgery Specialist at Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore. He is a specialist in cochlear implants and endoscopic ear surgery. Trained at the prestigious Ear Science Institute in Australia, where he was the Director of the Hearing and Ear Implant Centre at Singapore General Hospital from 2012 to 2019. He has performed numerous cochlear implant surgeries for both children and adults in Singapore, as well as in Vietnam, Bangladesh, and Indonesia. Dr. Tan was also the first to perform endoscopic ear surgery at Singapore General Hospital in 2014 and has conducted various types of ear surgeries since then.
In addition to the aforementioned leadership roles, he has served as the Secretary of the ASEAN Academy of Neuro-Otology and Audiology since 2015. Previously, he was the Programme Director for SingHealth’s ENT Residency Programme from 2012 to 2014 and the Deputy Director of the SingHealth-Duke NUS Head and Neck Centre from 2014 to 2018.
Nguyen Thanh Tung, MD, PhD – Head of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery – Dental Surgery Department at FV Hospital
Nguyen Thanh Tung, MD, PhD graduated with a degree in Dentistry from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City in 2006 and completed a three-year residency in Maxillofacial Surgery at the Central Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology in Ho Chi Minh City (2007-2010). In 2013, he earned a PhD in Dental Science from Hiroshima University in Japan.
Dr Tung has 14 years of experience working at the Central Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology in Ho Chi Minh City. During this time, in addition to his role as a maxillofacial surgeon, he served as the Head of International Cooperation from 2014 to 2015. Dr Tung is recognised for his expertise in treating issues related to maxillofacial pathology, dental trauma, maxillofacial surgery, and dental implants.
Furthermore, Dr Tung has nearly 8 years of experience in clinical teaching. He has served as a visiting lecturer in the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Ho Chi Minh City, conducted courses on Maxillofacial Surgery at the Central Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology, and participated in technical transfer projects for maxillofacial surgery to various hospitals across the country. Since January 2022, Nguyen Thanh Tung, MD, PhD has been the Head of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery – Dental Surgery at FV Hospital.
Specialist level II, Phan Van Thai, MD, MSc – Head of General Surgery, FV Hospital
Dr Phan Van Thai graduated from medical school in 1998 and obtained his Specialisation Degree Level I in 2001 at Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy. He completed his residency in General Surgery, Thoracic Surgery & Vascular Surgery at Hue in 2002 and joined FV Hospital a year later. In 2014, he also received his Specialisation Degree Level II at Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy.
Dr Phan Van Thai is one of the first Vietnamese surgeons to join FV Hospital. He is renowned for his high surgical skills, meticulousness, and dedication to specialized techniques. He is also highly esteemed by many patients and colleagues for his passion, talent in his work, as well as his gentle and respectable demeanour. According to statistics from the past 5 years, Dr Phan Van Thai is the surgeon who has performed the most surgeries and received the most thank-you letters in the Department of General Surgery at FV Hospital.
Since May 2018, Dr Phan Van Thai has been serving as the Head of General Surgery Department at FV Hospital. He specializes in areas such as liver and pancreas surgery, endoscopic surgery, and thyroid surgery. In recent years, Dr Thai has also been very successful in treating over 30 cases of obesity using minimally invasive endoscopic gastric sleeve surgery.
Specialist Level II, Nguyen Viet Quynh Thu, MD, MSc, Head of Nutrition & Dietetics Department, FV Hospital
Specialist Level II, Nguyen Viet Quynh Thu, MD, MSc, graduated as a General Doctor from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City in 1999. Following that, Dr Quynh Thu received a Specialisation Degree Level I in Internal Medicine in 2007 and a Specialisation Degree Level II in Internal Medicine in 2011 from
Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy. She received a Master’s degree in Nutrition from Women’s University of Japan in 2008 and a Diploma in Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism of ESPEN in 2019. Doctor Quynh Thu has also participated in many specialised training courses domestically and abroad such as the Total Nutrition Therapy in Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Indonesia; Advanced Clinical Nutrition, and Nutrition Support Team in Japan and LLL ESPEN courses held in Denmark, Poland, Spain, Philippines and Vietnam.
Dr Quynh Thu has more than 15 years of experience in the field of Clinical Nutrition in medical treatment; specially, she was the Head of the Nutrition Department of Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital and has been managing the Nutrition Department for over 10 years. Besides, Doctor Quynh Thu also participated in examination and treatment at some important specialties such as Gastroenterology (2000 – 2005), Endocrinology (2005 – 2006) and Endocrinology (2006 – 2015) at Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital. Doctor Quynh Thu has officially worked at FV Hospital since February 2016, as the only Senior Treatment Doctor, Department of Clinical Nutrition. Then, Doctor Quynh Thu held the position of Head of Nutrition & Dietetics Unit, FV Hospital from 2017 to 2021 and from May 2021, Doctor Nguyen Viet Quynh Thu was officially appointed as Head of Nutrition and Dietetics Department at FV Hospital. Currently, Doctor Quynh Thu also holds the position of Vice President of the Vietnam Dietetics Association (VDA). In addition to professional work at the department, Dr Thu regularly organises and teaches clinical nutrition training classes for medical staff, participates in setting up nutritional treatment forms and protocols in the hospital. Dr Quynh Thu also actively communicates and educates on nutrition through patient and community clubs, participates in television programs on nutrition counselling, writes articles on nutrition topics.
