International Allied Health Professions Day 2024 – Quality and Safety

On 14th October, FV Hospital celebrated International Allied Health Professions Day to honour over 50 allied health professionals who are making important contributions to the healthcare system at FV. This year’s event, themed “Quality and Safety,” was attended by representatives from the Board of Directors, doctors, nurses, and many colleagues.

In his speech, Dr Vu Truong Son, Acting Medical Director, expressed deep appreciation for the allied health professionals. He emphasised their “indispensable” role in patient care and treatment processes, particularly in complex cases. “Along with the collaboration among specialties at FV, the support from the allied health team has achieved optimal treatment outcomes for patients and enhanced the quality of our healthcare.”

Dr Son acknowledged the professional competencies of the allied health professionals at FV.

Representing her department, Ms Sylvie Feuerle, Imaging and Radiotherapy Manager, discussed the role of technicians in providing diagnostic and therapeutic imaging, highlighting that their work involves not only technical skills but also emotional support for patients. She stressed, “Your work goes beyond operating high-tech equipment; it requires care and empathy towards patients.” Ms Sylvie continued and encouraged her colleagues to embrace new technological trends such as artificial intelligence (AI) to continue improving work processes.

Empathy towards patients is a key focus for Ms Sylvie and her colleagues.

Following this, Dr Nguyen Viet Quynh Thu, Head of Nutrition and Dietetics Department, shared her insights on the essential role of allied health professionals, particularly the nutrition specialists working in her department. With the year’s theme of “Quality and Safety,” Dr Quynh Thu noted that the expertise of the allied health team and the multidisciplinary collaboration at FV effectively align with this theme, yielding the best treatment outcomes for patients.

Closing the ceremony, Catherine Cousin PhD, Head of Head of Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation, expressed gratitude for the hospital’s recognition of the crucial contributions made by allied health professionals within the multidisciplinary care system. Mrs Catherine also highlighted the roles and responsibilities of allied health professionals throughout the patient treatment process.

FV Hospital currently employs over 50 allied health professionals across various specialties.

Once again, FV extends its congratulations and appreciation to allied health professionals everywhere, especially those working at FV Hospital. Through this event, FV also aims to enhance community awareness in Vietnam about the vital role of allied health professionals in delivering quality and safe medical treatment processes.

International Allied Health Professions Day is celebrated annually on 14th October. This global event was initiated in 2018 by two clinical doctors in the UK as a social movement on Twitter to honour the dedication and efforts of all allied health professionals (AHPs). It is now celebrated and recognised in many countries around the world.

Allied health professions typically include specialists in the disciplines of physiotherapy, imaging, optometry and refraction, nuclear medicine, oncology, nutrition, psychology, and more.
