Running from the summer of 2018 till now, the third painting contest Give a child a chance in life, organized by The Children of Vietnam Charitable Fund, has become a familiar event for children. Entering its third season, the contest continues to attract great interest with 104 pieces of art been sent in to the organizing committee.
Paintings created by the children show a variety of unique perspectives on nature and their surrounding life. From houses, flowers, trees, parks to the vast sky, the children’s imagination’s come to life through their own unique work. The methods to create the pieces of art were as diverse and creative as the pieces themselves, from pencil and crayon drawings, to oil and watercolour paintings, to even hand-crafted pieces.
Despite some of the members of the judging panel taking part as judges previously, the children were still able to surprise them. After a tough afternoon of deciding the winning entries, the judges agreed on 10 paintings from the works submitted to the contest. Below, are the final results of the third Give a child a chance in life children’s painting competition:
01 First Prize – Prize of VND 2 million:
- Joining Little Hands for a Big Happiness – Illustrator: Pham Hoang Oanh – 8 years old
02 Second Prize – Prize of VND 1.5 million:
- Conquering Mountain Peak – Illustrator: Nguyen Nam Quan – 6 years old
- Embrace the Winter – Illustrator: Huynh Thi Xuan My – 7 years old
03 Third Prizes – Prize of VND 1 million:
- Sea – Illustrator: Kim Huyen – 5 years old
- Let’s smile – Illustrator: Nguyen Thi Ngoc Phuong – 11 years old
- Happiness – Illustrator: Nguyen Duy Phuong Mai – 15 years old
04 Consolation Prizes – prize of VND 500,000:
- Rainbow Fish – Illustrator: Avery Dinh Hodge – 5 years old
- Late afternoon – Illustrator: Le Ha Anh Thu – 10 years old
- Spring Butterfly – Illustrator: Huynh Thi Xuan My – 7 years old
- Beach Village – Illustrator: Võ Đào Đức Phát – 12 years old
Participating as a judge for the painting competition for the first time, artist, Bui Van Phuc was very impressed, expressing: “I am very happy to see the innocent and pure paintings of the children. Each picture has its own beauty, so there is no formula or pattern to compare. When judging, all paintings are considered in accordance to the contest criteria. What I love is their natural and creative brush strokes which go beyond traditional thinking. Many paintings were very good, in particular, the Conquering Mountain Peak piece which brought me a sense of compassion and understanding.”
Also impressed was fellow judge, Hoang Thang, a journalist from Thanh Nien Newspaper, who shared: “Although the contest has been held three times, it still attracts some fantastic entries and a number of paintings sent to the organizing committee were of particular high quality. Every year, choosing the winning pieces is a very difficult task for me. Many paintings make me feel emotional. It is impossible not to mention the painting which won the first prize. It expressed to me the meaning of humanity: a deformed hand is supported and surrounded by many other hands. The painting implicates an exquisite observation and love for children by the surrounding community. Young children who create such beautiful drawings, sharing positive outlooks, deserve great encouragement.”
The painting contest for children, Little Hands for Little Lives, is a fundraising activity for The Children of Vietnam Charitable Fund, an organization founded by FV Hospital in 2006 to provide surgery and treatment for children under 16 years old from disadvantaged families. The submitted paintings will be exhibited and auctioned on the ground floor of the F building within FV Hospital so that customers can visit and bid. All proceeds of the auctioned winning paintings will be donated to The Children of Vietnam Charitable Fund. For unqualified paintings, 50% of the proceeds will also be donated to the Fund and the remaining 50% will be given to the illustrators.
Not only does the painting contest bring joy and creative encouragement to children who love painting, but it also helps them spread kindness to everyone, especially children from disadvantaged families with deformities.
