Admission Process Overview FV Hospital organises annual recruitment for the 12-month Practice Programme, which upon completion grants eligible doctors a Medical Examination and Treatment Practice Licence. Eligibility: Vietnamese medical doctors seeking a licence to practise medical examination and treatment, as outlined in Point a, Clause 1, Article 8 of Decree 96/2023/ND-CP (30 December 2023). All applicants are required to attend an entrance interview with FV Hospital’s Human Resources Department. Training fee: Successful candidates receive a full scholarship and monthly allowance for the entire duration of the programme. Training location: FV Hospital, 6 Nguyen Luong Bang Street, Tan My Ward, District 7, Ho Chi Minh City Training Schedule The Medical Administration Department arranges each practitioner’s rotation schedule to ensure balanced clinical exposure across departments throughout the 12-month period. Practitioners will engage in practice and on-call duties in accordance with hospital regulations for each department or unit. Absences must not exceed 10% of the total practice time. In the event of health issues or force majeure circumstances, practitioners may pause their programme for a maximum of 12 months and retain all previously recorded practice results. Important Note! The practice contract will be terminated and the practice period at the respective department will not be recorded if the practitioner fails to notify the hospital of their absence. Upon successful completion of the program, meeting all professional competence and ethical standards, practitioners will be awarded a Certificate of Completion of the Practice Program by FV Hospital. Chapter 1: Orientation training Delivered by the FV Training Centre, this opening chapter equips practitioners with the institutional knowledge and professional foundations required to practise safely and effectively at FV Hospital.Topics covered include: Legal knowledge applicable to medical practice in Vietnam FV Hospital’s code of conduct Conduct rules specific to medical doctors Milestone levels and reporting requirements throughout the programme Employee regulations Orion management software Orientation to FV medical policies Chapter 2: Emergency and resuscitation practice Practitioners choose one of the following units to gain hands-on experience in emergency medicine: Emergency department Intensive care unit Conditions and scenarios covered include: Triage in the A&E department Cardiopulmonary resuscitation Airway foreign body management Respiratory failure Altered consciousness Shock Seizures Poisoning Trauma from snake bites, bee stings, drowning and electrocution Electrolyte and acid-base disorders Burns Emergency haemodialysis Trauma management Emergency abdominal surgery Ventilator support: indications and basic modes Chapter 3: Specialty rotations Practitioners rotate through four core specialty areas — Internal Medicine, Surgical Medicine, Paediatrics and Neonatology, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology — and select one elective department from the following: Ophthalmology Otorhinolaryngology Dental and maxillofacial Diagnostic imaging Chapter 4: Final evaluation The programme concludes with a formal competency assessment and certification process: End-of-contract evaluation: A comprehensive review of the practitioner’s progress and competencies across all rotations Certificate of completion: Awarded to practitioners who meet all programme requirements Additional Training and Skills Development Throughout the programme, practitioners develop a comprehensive set of clinical skills essential to day-to-day medical practice: Patient Assessment: Conducting thorough and focused patient assessments in various clinical settings (Outpatient, Inpatient, Emergency). Disease Diagnosis: Synthesising patient information to make accurate initial and differential diagnoses. Prescription Writing: Prescribing medications safely and in compliance with hospital and national guidelines. Medical Record Documentation: Maintaining accurate and complete medical records, including discharge summaries and consent forms. Patient Management Reporting: Summarizing and reporting patient status accurately and coherently. Evidence-Based Practice: Utilizing and applying evidence-based medical literature in clinical decision-making. Practical Experience in Various Clinical Settings Practitioners apply assessment and management skills across a range of clinical environments: Outpatient department: Initial assessments, follow-up visits and specialty clinics including dermatology, dietetics and chemotherapy Inpatient department: Initial assessments, care planning and reassessments across ICU, maternity, paediatrics and surgical units Specialised consultations and referrals: Seeking specialist opinions and consulting with clinical psychologists Patient Safety and Management Policies Practitioners are trained in FV Hospital’s key policies and protocols related to patient safety and quality of care: Handover and takeover procedures Primary doctor and collaborative care policy Emergency response (Code Blue) Pre-anaesthesia assessment policy Consultation policy Continuous care and on-call duties Informed consent and information policy Incident reporting policy Practicing Basic Procedures in Specialties Practitioners develop hands-on proficiency in a range of core medical procedures: Oxygen therapy Mechanical ventilation Aerosol therapy Endotracheal intubation Bandaging and haemostasis Fracture immobilisation Cardiopulmonary resuscitation Pleural and lumbar puncture Central venous catheter placement Blood transfusion ECG interpretation Normal delivery assistance Suturing soft tissue wounds Milestones and Competency Levels The programme tracks practitioner development across six internationally recognised competency domains: 1 Patient care Delivering compassionate, effective care tailored to each patient’s needs 2 Medical knowledge Demonstrating sound understanding of clinical science and its application 3 System-based practice Operating effectively within healthcare systems and institutional frameworks 4 Practice-based learning and improvement Reflecting on performance and actively seeking to improve 5 Professionalism Upholding ethical standards, accountability and respect in all interactions 6 Interpersonal and communication skills Communicating clearly and empathetically with patients, families and colleagues Each domain is assessed on a scale from Level 1 (novice) to Level 5 (skilled). Evaluations are reviewed by tutors and heads of department to determine the practitioner’s progress. Final Evaluation The final evaluation involves gathering competency assessments and verifying the completion of practical procedures. The certification of completion of practical training program given to whom has matched enough conditions as below: Achieved Level 2 or higher in the performance assessment for practitioners.
