Paediatrics & Neonatology

Our Comprehensive Paediatric & Neonatal Services

From your child’s first days to adolescence, our department provides the full spectrum of paediatric healthcare under one roof, in one team.

Your baby’s first days are filled with important beginnings – the first breath, the first feeding, the first steps of growth and adaptation. At FV, our neonatal team is present from the very first moment, providing attentive, expert care to ensure a safe, smooth transition into life beyond the womb.

We support not only your newborn, but your entire family – with comprehensive medical care, close monitoring, and gentle guidance throughout these early, defining days.

From birth, every baby at FV receives:

  • Comprehensive newborn examinations immediately after birth and during the first weeks of life
  • Routine newborn screening across multiple conditions
  • Nutritional counselling and breastfeeding support
  • Vaccination counselling and administration for infants aged 0–24 months
  • Postnatal mother-and-baby home care within a 30 km radius of FV Hospital

Some newborns may require additional medical support during the first days of life, particularly those born prematurely or experiencing temporary health challenges after birth. At FV, our NICU Level 2 provides a safe, closely monitored environment where babies receive appropriate care tailored to their condition, with continuous supervision by a dedicated neonatal team.

This level of care is typically suitable for newborns born from 32 weeks of gestation or weighing 1,500 grams or more, who require more than routine observation but do not need the highest level of intensive care:

  • Premature babies or those with early physiological immaturity
  • Breathing difficulties or unstable body temperature
  • Feeding difficulties requiring additional support
  • Conditions at birth such as reduced oxygen levels or seizures
  • Need for specialised care such as incubator support, oxygen therapy, intravenous nutrition, or short-term respiratory support

Our Neonatal High Dependency Unit (NHDU) provides a safe and carefully monitored environment for babies with mild to moderate conditions, ensuring early intervention and a smooth recovery.

This level of care is typically suitable for newborns born from 34 weeks of gestation, including babies with lower birth weight (under 2100 grams) or those requiring additional monitoring after birth:

Mild to moderate clinical conditions, such as:

  • Low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia)
  • Breathing difficulties (fast breathing or mild respiratory distress)
  • Jaundice in the first 24 hours
  • Suspected or confirmed infection

Need for additional medical support, including:

  • Oxygen therapy at low levels
  • Monitoring of breathing or blood glucose
  • Short-term intravenous treatment, including antibiotics
  • Phototherapy for jaundice
  • Assisted feeding (such as tube feeding when needed)

Other situations, such as:

  • Babies transferred from NICU for ongoing recovery
  • Newborns who require closer observation than can be provided in the maternity ward

Our outpatient clinic is open from 7:00 to 17:00, serving families who need early morning appointments.

A child’s growth and development should be closely monitored, especially in the early years. At FV, we recommend key milestone check-ups to ensure your child is developing optimally — physically, cognitively, and emotionally.

Recommended schedule for children aged 0-2:

  • 5-7 days after birth
  • 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 and 24 months

For children over 2 years, check-ups are aligned with key developmental stages:

  • Before starting preschool (from age 3)
  • Before entering primary school (ages 5–7)
  • Pre-puberty and during puberty

Each check-up covers:

  • Physical growth assessment
  • Developmental milestones
  • Behavioural and psychological screening
  • Nutritional assessment
  • Vaccination guidance

Before starting school, many international and private schools require a comprehensive health assessment to ensure each child is fit to participate in school activities and that any medical needs are clearly identified and supported.

At FV, this service is designed to meet school requirements — with examinations conducted and documented according to the official health forms provided by each school. The evaluation provides a complete overview of your child’s health, may including:

  • General physical examination: Assessing overall health, growth, and development
  • Vision and hearing screening: To identify any issues that may affect learning and communication
  • Medical history and current health status: Including past conditions, allergies, ongoing treatments, and vaccination records
  • Fitness for school participation: Determining whether the child is able to safely participate in a full school programme

Nutritional assessment is included as part of every routine check-up, covering your child’s dietary intake, growth patterns, and feeding habits relative to their developmental stage.

When specialist dietary support is needed, your child will be referred to our dedicated Nutrition Clinic. Referrals are made for children with:

  • Malnutrition or poor weight gain
  • Overweight or obesity
  • Feeding difficulties requiring clinical dietary intervention
  • Families seeking structured nutritional guidance for their child

Not every concern needs a hospital visit. But every concern deserves a real answer from a qualified doctor. FV’s telemedicine service connects you directly with our paediatricians through a secure online platform, giving you the same clinical expertise available at our hospital, from wherever you are.

It is designed for moments when you need guidance quickly: a newborn not feeding well, a fever that won’t break, a follow-up after discharge, or a developmental question you have been carrying for weeks.

What can be addressed through telemedicine:

  • Symptom assessment and clinical evaluation
  • Treatment plan review and adjustment
  • Nutritional and growth assessment
  • Parental guidance on newborn care including umbilical cord care, skincare, and sleep routines

Some children heal better at home. FV@Home brings our clinical team to your door, so your child receives the right care in the place they feel safest, without the stress of repeated hospital visits. Our home care service covers newborns, infants, and children at every stage of recovery.
