Discharge Process

A Step-by-Step Guide to the Hospital Discharge Process, Payment, and Medication Management

Before Discharge

Discharge planning is initiated on the first day of your admission and then the attending doctor determines the discharge date and will inform the patient at least one day in advance. While awaiting discharge, FV Hospital will complete the following steps to ensure a smooth process:

  • The doctor reviews the medical records, evaluates treatment outcomes, prescribes discharge medications, and schedules follow-up appointments if required.
  • The doctors also educate patient what can be expected at home after discharge, which care or wound care should be arranged at home, what is the signs that you have to come back to the hospital.
  • The Pharmacy prepare medications
  • The insurance office to work with insurance company for final “yes” to pay the patient bill

Checkout & Payment

  • Discharge Time Policy: After completing discharge procedures, patients will be guided through payment and discharge. The official check-out time at FV Hospital is before 11:00 am. Late check-out may incur additional room charges.
  • Hospital Bill Payment: Payments can be made in the patient’s room or at the Cashier Desk and Insured patient will be required to sign the final
  • Medication Dispensing: For inpatients our pharmacist will bring medication to the patient rooms and dispense to patients.

Receiving Medication

Prescriptions are automatically sent and prepared at FV Pharmacy. Pharmacist will:

  • Provide correct medication (right drug, right dose).
  • Instruct usage details: Dosage, method, timing.
  • Note side effects or drug interactions (if any).

Documents Received upon Discharge

  • Discharge prescription.
  • Discharge summary (signed by doctor).
  • Lab results (including Blood Type Card).
  • Imaging results (with film or CD).
  • Procedure results: Cathlab, ECG, Echocardiogram, Endoscopy, Stress test…
  • Surgical report (if any).
  • Rehabilitation indication.
  • Patient instruction documents.
  • Discharge certificate / Referral letter.
  • Birth certificate / Death certificate.
  • Follow-up appointment card.
  • Child health book (for newborns).
  • Fit to fly certificate (if needed).

We always try the best to have your journey as smooth and efficient as possible, without less waiting time, however, if you are insured and your insurance guaranteed to pay for your bill, waiting time for insurance billing may be expected up to 4h as insurance company expected to receive following documents from FV Hospital to review and finally confirm to pay for your bill:

  • Detailed invoice
  • Medical images and test results
  • Discharge summary
  • Doctor’s prescription
  • With our standard check-out time at 11h00am, we offer you to stay in the room up to 4h to wait. However, this will incur additional room fee to your bill.
  • Or you can pay the hospital bill without waiting for the final confirmation from insurance. Then you can make a claim with insurance later for reimbursement.
  • And another option is you the full amount of hospital bill and leave. We will handle the direct billing to the insurance. Once we receive final confirmation from insurance, we will settle the deposited amount to your account upon receipt of final confirmation from insurance.

Outside office hours: Please go to the Cashier at the Emergency Department (Ground Floor).
