Standard Breast Cancer Screening

All women should undergo a breast cancer risk assessment by age 25 to determine if they need to start regular screening earlier than age 40 and the type of screening required

Clinical breast examinations are recommended every 1 to 3 years for women aged 25 to 39 and annually for women aged 40 or older.

For women considered at average-risk yearly mammograms are recommended starting at age 40 and continuing for as long as a woman is in good health

Women considered at higher-than-average risk – because of their family history, a genetic tendency, or certain other factors – should be screened earlier and have a breast MRI in addition to mammogram. Talk to your doctor about your history and whether you should have additional tests at an earlier age.
