Treatment Methods

Advanced medications, personalised nutrition therapy, physical activity, and diabetes technology. All for one coordinated plan.

There is no single treatment for diabetes. Good diabetes care is a combination of the right medications, the right nutrition, and regular movement. At FV, all three are built into your care plan from the start.

Pharmacotherapy

Today’s diabetes medications do more than bring your blood sugar down. Newer agents such as semaglutide and SGLT2 inhibitors have strong clinical evidence showing they also reduce your risk of heart attack, stroke, and kidney decline. For many of our patients who are managing diabetes alongside heart or kidney conditions, this means one treatment is working on several fronts at once.

Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT)

What you eat is one of the most powerful levers you have in managing diabetes. At FV, nutrition is not general advice: it is a structured, personalised plan built around your blood sugar profile and energy needs. Our nutrition team works with you on three foundations: never skipping breakfast, keeping to two or three regular meals a day, and choosing foods that release energy slowly rather than spiking your blood sugar. Getting this right can stabilise your glucose levels, reduce how much medication you need, and lower your long-term risk of complications.

Physical Activity as Therapy

Exercise is not just good general advice for people with diabetes — it is a clinical treatment. Regular movement lowers your blood glucose, blood pressure, and cholesterol, and makes your body more responsive to insulin. The American Diabetes Association recommends at least 150 minutes of aerobic activity per week, with resistance training added for the greatest overall benefit. Your FV team will help you build a plan that works for your current fitness level and health status.

Diabetes Technology

Continuous glucose monitors (CGM) work like a live feed for your blood sugar, tracking levels around the clock rather than giving you a single reading at a single moment. Combined with insulin pump therapy or hybrid closed-loop systems that adjust insulin delivery automatically, these tools give you and your care team a far more complete picture of how your body responds to food, activity, and stress.
